With Poland and Belarus to the north, the Volyn Oblast, also known as Volyns'ka Oblast and Volyn', is located north of the Lviv Oblast, west of the Rivne Oblast and has a population of over 1,000,000. The capital city of the Volyn Oblast is Lutsk, is located in the southeastern part of the oblast and has a population of over 200,000. Although it is Ukraine's poorest region, the Volyn Oblast has some fabulous sites of it's own. The 14th century Castle of Lutsk, the 17th century Catholic cathedral, the 18th century Orthodox cathedral, two 16th century Greek-Catholic churches, The 17th century Great Synagogue of Lutsk are among some of the Volyn Oblast's greatest symbols.
